fra cielo e mare

monte argentario (italy) - 2016

ph. : luigi filetici

'... Suspended between sky and sea ...' it is the definition used by the Clients to portray the beauty of the enjoyable view from their house in Monte Argentario.

And therefore this definition does trigger the lay-out of a beautiful project conduct with passion and fun in an attempt to reverberate the flavors of the surrounding landscape also inside the home.

Rather than proceed with a radical intervention we decide to set a project highly respectful of the existing building organism, as though embellish with the adoption of a new range of furniture solutions and topcoats requiring intervention charm and panache desired.

The new palette of finishes is thus framed within an image design inspired by the '50 / '60 (the decades that saw the flourishing of the local tourist activities), flavors that illustrate to the Client under preliminary approach through a series of images related to the great master Gio Ponti works.

It’s just this kaleidoscope of images to trigger the project: it decides to integrate the beautiful floors in existing roll with a wide use of hand-painted ceramic from Vietri (memory of the Neapolitan origin of the Client), which is so broadly cover and widespread local bathroom, the kitchen and especially draws a particular ceramic wall carpet in the living room, to gather in a single composition all geometries used in the home, all centered around the heavenly range, turquoise and ultramarine.

From the point of view of the walls changes the only intervention that is put in place is to open a horizontal slot to allow communication in a more direct way the kitchen with the adjacent living room, to allow those who work in this place however, to enjoy the brightness and freshness of the landscape that can be appreciated from the large existing window.

And just to boost even more this and make visible a sort of large rearview mirror built on a design, tilting and swiveling in a way that can viewpoint underdog prospectively wall is installed to reflect the image of the exterior.

The two side walls of the living room also become protagonists of the setting, covered with a rough bark of stone that with its surface deliberately rough connotes in a decisive manner the local scale and balance smooth surfaces and almost wet ceramic coatings.

Strange geometric motifs, inspired by the color and shape variations of ceramic coatings draw a bit all over the house, dividing walls and ceilings, scores now second triangles, diamonds, rectangles, semicircles, etc. a sort of art installation that is right in the room normally strictly functional, single transit, the corridor, perhaps the high point.

Furnishings and accessories in walnut wood and fabric on the chromatic variations turquoise complete the setting, vintage and sea as it serves to give anyway freshness to the general atmosphere.

In the sleeping area the same mix of colors, always played between the turquoise and blue of the deep sea, draws different fields generated from the rafters and the existing mezzanines, while the two bathrooms are new productions still centers on the color gamut already portrayed, and the contrast between the latest product innovations provided by the current market with pieces (such as the basin of the guest bathroom, made of terracotta design on iron support) interpreters instead of those craft values all Italian, of which the house today is very proud.
